ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian National team have today collected the first three points in their opening Group B matches at the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2022.
The Lucy won their first match of the tournament against Zanzibar 5-0.
Loza Abera and Kidist Zeleke each scored a brace, while Aregash Kalss netted one in the first minute of the match.
The other match in Group B saw Tanzania defeated South Sudan 2-0.
The CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship, involving eight teams, kicked off in Uganda on Wednesday.
In the opening Group A games, the host nation and Burundi picked maximum points.
Burundi defeated a 10-man Djibouti team 3-0, while Uganda stopped Rwanda 2-0 in matches.
Action will return on Friday with two Group B matches on card as Uganda host Djibouti and Burundi face Rwanda.
The Ethiopian side will play their second match of the championship against Tanzania on Saturday. South Sudan will face Zanzibar on the same day.
The Kenyan team that lifted the title when the tournament was last held in 2019 are not featuring in the Championship because FIFA is yet to lift the suspension on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Group A: Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Djibouti
Group B: Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Ethiopia
