Covid-19: Ethiopia Logs 296 New Cases, highest Daily Count in 4-Month


ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has today registered 296 new Covid-19 infections, the highest one-day increase in nearly four months.

The latest positive cases were confirmed from 6, 666 people tested in the last twenty-four hours, says ministry of health Covid-19 report on Tuesday.

Today’s increase is the highest authorities reported since February 3, during which 334 diagnosed for the acute respiratory disease.

The report says the nation’s confirmed tally has now reached 472, 743.

About 455, 990 of them have already recuperated from the disease, says the ministry, after adding only 24 recoveries on Tuesday.

The increase in the number of daily infections has pushed the active cases total to 9, 238.

At least 12 of them are severely sick and are getting medical treatments in hospitals.

Zero Covid-19 disease related fatalities have also been reported as the death toll remains at 7, 513.

Health officials last reported a Covid-19 fatality in Ethiopia on May 25, 2022.

The vaccination pace is still at standstill as the last 24-hours passed by with no Covid-19 vaccine offered to the public, as per the report.

Health officials recently disclosed that preparations are underway to roll out the third round national vaccine drive early next month.

The previous two helped the nation to administer close to 29.45mln doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

More than 24.5 million people are also fully vaccinated against the coronavirus since the first vaccine shot was given in March 2021.
