Car Crash Kills 3 in East Gojjam

ADDIS ABABA – Police said at least 3 people have been killed in a road accident involving a public bus, in Amhara region’s East Gojjam zone.

Five others were injured in the accident which occurred around 40: 00 P.M. Saturday in Shebel Berenta District.

The bus carrying wedding goers was traveling to the groom’s house when the accident happened at Kosheshila Gots, reported the District Traffic Police Office.

Police said the driver apparently failed to control the vehicle that carried passengers belyod the legal limit and crashed. Some of the travelers who were sitting on the roof of the bus tried to jump in order to save their lives, Police said.

Three of them, unfortunately, died on the spot while 5 others sustained injuries, said the Police.

Reports say road traffic accidents are the main cause for most injury related deaths in Ethiopia.

Drivers’ and pedestrians’ lack of awareness, poor technical inspections of vehicles and older vehicles are among the reasons often blamed for the accidents.
