Ministry Confirms 36 Covid Cases, 0 Deaths Over the Weekend

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 36 novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and zero related fatalities over the weekend, health officials report.

The latest positive infections, identified from 5, 142 people tested for Coronavirus on Saturday-Sunday, brings the nation’s confirmed tally to 470, 740.

.In the same period, the Ministry’s report shows only five patients have recuperated from the disease, putting the recovery count at 455, 729.

The relative increase in daily cases has made the confirmed active cases total in increase by over 30 in the past two days to 7, 499.

Meanwhile, the country has not recorded a single Covid-19 fatalities as the number of days without a confirmed death reaches 18.

The ministry last reported a Coronavirus induced fatality on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. The national death toll stays at 7, 510.

The number of severe cases stays the same as four seriously sick patients are still under treatment in hospital, the latest update indicates.

Health experts are still advising the public to be vigilant and follow the Covid protocols including wearing facemasks when in crowded places.

The national vaccination pace, however, remains at a standstill. However, health officials, who reviewed the previous two vaccines drive, plans to launch a third-round vaccine drive next month

Ethiopia started offering the Covid vaccine to its citizens in March, 2021. Since then, over 29.41 doses of the vaccine have been administered nationwide. More than 24.5 million Ethiopians are also fully vaccinated against the virus.
