Repatriates from Saudi Arabia Exceeds 15, 000 Mark

ADDIS ABABA – The number of Ethiopian nationals repatriated from Saudi Arabia has topped the 15, 000 mark.

Ethiopia has today continued airlifting its nationals from the Gulf nation for the second day this week.



Three planes with a combined total of 1, 028 migrants aboard have landed at Addis Ababa Bole international airport on Wednesday, said the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.

Four of today’s returnees are children, the Ministry said, adding that the remaining 1, 0 24 are men.

“They are now in a shutter center where they are receiving care and support,” the ministry said.

Today’s arrivals have brought the total number of Ethiopians repatriated from Saudi Arabia to more than 15, 000, it added.

The East African nation started repatriating its nationals living in difficult situations in the Gulf nation on March 30, with a target to bring 102,000 undocumented migrants there within ‘5 to 11 months’.

The ongoing repatriation process is led by a national committee composed of 16 government agencies.
