ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian delegation has conducted extensive deliberation with key United States Government agencies on strategic and important bilateral relations, said the Ministry of Finance on Monday.
The delegation led by Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide is in Washington attending the 2022 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)and the World Bank Group (WBG).
The delegation is also holding sideline meetings with top officials of the government agencies of the hosting nation, as well as other delegations attending the meetings.
In a statement today, the Ministry of Finance said delegation exchanged views with U.S. agencies including US Treasury, State Department, USAID, the special envoy for Horn of Africa and others
The discussions centered on the political and economic developments in Ethiopia and the region at large, according to the ministry.
During the meeting with the Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Madame Molly Phee, the ministry said a range of issues related to the longstanding Ethiopia-US bilateral relations have been discovered.
These include, it said, ways to further strengthen the critical economic and commercial cooperation, the positive progress towards peace, and the need for sustained efforts for humanitarian aid delivery in northern Ethiopia.
“The discussions also highlighted Ethiopia’s needs and efforts toward recovery and reconstruction, including urgent restoration of services in conflict affected regions,” said the Ministry of Finance,

In Washington, Finance Minister Ahmed held talks with World Bank Country Director Ousmane Dione on several issues, including “impact of the current challenges, growth and World Bank support”.
Ahmed told Dione how the government is confronting the challenges of impacts of conflict, climate change and rising inflation fueled by global supply constraints.
The Minister and the Country director also discussed the progress of reforms, the Bank’s portfolio performance and on how to strengthen cooperation between the World Bank and Ethiopia.
Finance Minister Ahmed expressed gratitude to the World Bank for the recent support extended to the Response-Recovery-Resilience for Conflict-Affected Communities Project.
The Country Director, on his part, has reaffirmed his commitment to the delivery of pipeline projects which are keen to help the government have a sustained focus on the medium-term development priorities,
Delegation Holds talks with Melinda, UK Minister
The Ethiopian delegation also held talks with Vicky Ford, United Kingdom’s Minister for Africa, and Melinda, Co-Chair and Founder of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on Thursday and Sunday, respectively
The meeting with Melinda discussed the Foundation’s support to health, agriculture and digital sectors of Ethiopia, according to Finance ministry
The Ministry also said the meeting between Ahmed and Ford focused on bilateral and economic cooperation issues important for Ethiopia and the UK.
