Covid-19: Ethiopia’s Active Cases Drop Below 10,000

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s active Covid-19 cases total has dropped below 10,000 as more patients recover, according to a ministry of health report.

The country has been recording a significantly higher recoveries than new infections since the second week of March.



This has pushed the confirmed active cases tally to drop from over 40, 000 in the first week of march to 9,927 today.

The report notes, in the past twenty-four alone, over 1, 096 patients have recuperated from the acute respiratory disease while only 63 people tested positive for the Coronavirus.

The country has also recorded zero covid-19 related fatalities for three consecutive days.
The national death toll remains at 7,508, the ministry reports.

At least eighteen severely sick Covid patients are still in hospital, it says.

Vaccine Drive Stagnates

The vaccine drive has stagnated again with the total of vaccine shots given remaining the same as yesterday.



Ethiopia has administered over 29.41mln doses of Covid-19 vaccine, so far. Over 24.5 million people are fully vaccinated, says the report.

The east African nation identified its first Coronavirus case in March, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed 469, 916 infections, and 451, 446 recoveries.
