Ethiopia, Kenya Agree to Cooperate in Security Issues

ADDIS ABABA – National Defense Forces of Ethiopia and Kenya have today agreed to cooperate in bilateral and regional security issues.



The Ethiopian National Defense Force Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula and his Kenyan counterpart General Robert Kibochi, met in Nairobi today.

During the meeting, the two sides have agreed to strengthen cooperation in bilateral and regional security issues, said the Ministry of Foreign oreign Affairs.

The agreement involves hosting capacity building training sessions and sharing experiences in peacekeeping.

“They further pledged to empower East Africa Standby Force (ESAF) as member states,” it added.



Field Marshal Berhanu reportedly said on the occasion that there is favorable condition and opportunity for the two sides to cooperate in peace and security issues.

Kenyan Chief of Defense Forces General Kibochi said on his part the two neighboring nations have longstanding friendship.

Such relationship need to be further strengthened, he added.

General Kiboch also expressed his delight to host Field Marshal Birhanu in Kenya.
