Ethiopia, MasterCard Discuss Potential Partnership Areas

ADDIS ABABA – Eyob Tolina, State Minister of Finance, held discussion with officials of MasterCard, a US tech company engaged in the global payments industry.

The State Minister of Finance met with the team led by Mark Elliott, Sub Saharan Africa President for MasterCard, in Addis Ababa on Wednesday.

The two sides discussed MasterCard’s engagements in Ethiopia including its partnership with various government offices.

This partnership intends to accelerate and digitize payments including in the transport and tourism sectors, the ministry of finance in a tweet posted on its official page.

They also talked about “potential engagements in social protection and pension payments, among others,” the Ministry added.

The team has agreed to further prioritize and develop a road-map to better support the implementation of the National digital payments strategy, officials said.
