U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier: Ethiopia Lose to Ghana at home

ADDIS ABABA – Ghana boosted their chances of clinching one of the tickets to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, Costa Rica 2022 after they beat Ethiopia 3-0 win in the first leg of the final round on Sunday.

The Ethiopians missed the services of Rediet Assresahagn and Araiet Odong, in the game played at Abebe Bikila Stadium due to injuries.



The Ghanaians made a promising start against the home side as they almost gained the lead through Grace Anima but her effort came off the crossbar in the 22nd minute.

Seven minutes later, the breakthrough came for the visitors when Abdulai’s brilliant strike gave them the vital lead.

Abdulai went on to double the advantage with her second of the match in the 38th minute before Nyama struck to complete the triumph just a minute from the half time break.

In the second half, both sides created opportunities but the visitors did enough till the end of the match to preserve their massive lead after botched attempts to add more.

Ghana will host the revers fixture in Cape Coast after two weeks.
