Ethiopia Reports 17 New Covid Cases, 6 recoveries

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 17 new infections of Covid-19 cases while only 6 patients recuperated from the disease on Saturday.

Both figures are among the lowest that the country recorded in a day in a year.

Today’s positive cases have been confirmed from 4,363 people tested in the last twenty-four hours, says the Ministry of health in its report.

Ethiopia’s recoveries count has reached 421, 439, after only six patients recuperated from Covid-19 in the reported period.

Only One Covid-19 patient succumbed to the virus on the day, says the report that puts the national death toll at 7,485.

Currently, there are 56 seriously sick Covid patients receiving treatments in medical centres.

They are among 40, 244 confirmed active cases in the country.

Despite the decreasing trend of new cases, health officials are still urging the public to continue wearing masks and follow other protocols put in place.

They are also urging the public to get their vaccine shot as the nation continues to push ahead with its second round vaccine drive.

In the last 24-hours alone, more than 138, 000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been given to the public, the report says.

The figure has taken the number of doses administered in the country to more than 28.6 million.

Nearly 23.9 million people have also received their second shot, according to the ministry of health.

Ethiopia confirmed its first Coronavirus case in March, 2020. Since then, it has identified a total of 469, 170 infections from 4.5 million tests conducted so far.

And a total of 421, 439 of them have already recovered from the disease, says the report.
