Nine Killed in Head-on Crash in Robe District

ADDIS ABABA – At least nine members of federal police have died in a traffic collision in Goba District of Bale zone.

Goba District Police Zone say the crash occurred in Genda Riria area around 03p.m. local time Monday.

A tow truck, heading from Dello Mena to Robe Town towing an excavator, crashed head-on with a police vehicle going in the opposite direction.

Nine police officers were pronounced dead at scene while four others sustained injuries.

Police say the injured people were taken to Goba referral Hospital for treatment.

The cause of this collision is still under investigation, say the Police. The driver of the tow truck is currently in custody.
