Traffic Accident in Bule Hora Town Leaves Two People Dead
ADDIS ABABA – Two people have died in a traffic accident in Bule Hora town of Southern Ethiopia.
The deadly accident occurred when a truck, registered with a Cod 3:17064 plate number, crashed head-on with a public bus traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the minibus, with 3:43687a.a. number plate, and his assistant were pronounced dead at the scene, said Feyere Keyredin, Police Department of West Guji Zone of Oromia, speaking to state-run news agency ENA.
The driver of the truck, injured in the accident, was transported to Bule Hora hospital for treatment, according to the police.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
Traffic accidents are relatively common in Ethiopia, which has one of the lowest per capita car ownership in the world.
At least 13 people lose their lives in a day due to deadly accidents, as per a 2021 UN report.
Bad roads, flawed driving license issuance system and lax enforcement of road safety and lack of road signs blamed for most of the accidents.
