Five People Killed, 17 Others Injured in Ataye Town Car Crash

ADDIS ABABA – At least 5 people were killed and 17 others injured after a minibus collided with a parked car in Ataye Town of Amhara region’s north Shewa Zone.

The communication bureau of the region on Tuesday said the minibus with 22 people aboard hit the parked Isuzu car head-on in the Town, about 250km North of Addis Ababa.



Five of the 22 passengers in the bus were declared deceased at the scene, a statement from the Bureau said.

Twelve other passengers were seriously injured and transported to a hospital and another 5 were lightly hurt, it said

Fortunately, it said six children who were on-board in the bus managed to survive the accident unscathed.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, North Shewa Zone police said.



Preliminary probe, however, indicates that speeding and carrying passengers beyond the seating capacity could be major factors for the fatal cash.

The minibus was heading to Addis Ababa from Woldia Town of Amhara region.

The latest deadly crash happened a couple of days after another traffic accident that claimed the lives of at least 20 people in Waghimra Zone of the region.
