Addis Ababa City Municipality Renovation Project Inaugurated
ADDIS ABABA – Addis Ababa city municipality renovation project was inaugurated on Sunday.
The project was inaugurated with top city administration officials including mayor Adanache Abiebie, and invited dignitaries in attendance.
The city administration invested a total of 2.2 Billion Birr to revamp the municipality’s headquarters for the first time in its 57 year history.
Its renovation work involved landscaping, renovating offices and the 850-seat theater hall as well as building new facilities such as a children’s playground inside the premises of the Municipality, covering a 50,000Sqm area.
The renovation work of the Municipality headquarters located at the center of the city in Piassa area started in August 2020 a few months after its approval by the city cabinet.
The Dubai based ALEC Engineering & Contracting LLC, which was involved in the restoration of the Office of the Prime Minister, carried out the project.
Constructed during Haile Selassie’s reign, Addis Ababa’s iconic building was designed by an Italian architect Arturo Mezzedimi and was built by Italian firm, ESBU Construction.
