Six-year-old Girl Killed in Fire Incident in South Omo Zone

ADDIS ABABA – One person was killed in a fire incident in Tolta Town of SNNP Region’s South Omo Zone, Police said on Sunday.

The blaze, which occurred on Saturday midnight, engulfed several residential houses of Tolta located 39 kilometres North of Jinka Town.

The fire claimed one life and completely damaged at least nine houses, said Inspector Yohannes Mekonnen, head of Omo Zone Police department, speaking to ENA.

The police described the victim as a six-year-old girl.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, police said.

The town’s residents played the key role in controlling the fire from causing further damages, officials of the zone said.
