100 High-ranking Military Officers Promoted as Army Chief Awarded Ethiopia’s First Field Marshal General

ADDIS ABABA – President Sahle-Work Zewde has given promotion to several high-ranking military officers of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF).

The promotions were given to the total of 100 military officers following their nomination by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia as per the constitution.

Accordingly, the president promoted four senior military officers, Lt Gen. Abebaw Tadesse, Lt Gen. Bacha Debele, Lt Gen. Hassen Ibrahim and Lt Gen. Getachew Gudina, to General rank.

Fourteen others were also awarded with Lieutenant General, 24 to Major General, and 58 to Brigadier General.

Ethiopia has introduced the title of Field Marshal General.

It was awarded the rank to Gen. Berhanu Jula, in light of his extraordinary acts in the face of a national crisis, said the Prime Minister office.

Field Marshal Jula has been serving as chief of General Ethiopian Defense Chief of Staff since November 2020.

Prime Minister Abiy, Commander-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Defense Forces, presided over the ENDF rank promotion ceremony along with several other senior government officials.
