ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia confirmed 2,163 new Covid-19 infections after testing 7,654 people on Friday.
The fresh cases took the nationwide tally to 442,187 as of Wednesday evening, a health ministry report said.
A further seven new COVID-19-related deaths and 1,111 recoveries were also recorded in the reported period, bringing the national death and recovery counts to 7,012 and 360,719, respectively.
Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, has so far reported the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the East Africa region.
The country is currently carrying out a national vaccine drive which was launched on March 13, this year, as part of its response to tackle the pandemic.
As of Friday evening, Ethiopia has administered 10,956,131 doses of COVID-19 vaccines while the number of fully vaccinated Ethiopians has reached 9, 36 million, according to the ministry of health.
