Ministry of Health reports 542 New Covid Cases, 9-related Deaths

ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopia has recorded 542 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, pushing the national confirmed cases tally to 374, 402, reports the ministry of health.

The fresh daily case number is the highest the country has registered in recent weeks. The country tested at least 6, 503 people in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases, claims the ministry daily Covid report.



Nine more people have also passed away due to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period, bringing the national death toll to 6, 855.

There are now 148 severely sick patients of Covid who getting treatment in medical centers. These patients are among 16, 848 confirmed active cases in the country, according to the report.

It also says at least 106 patients have also recuperated from disease in the same period. The national recovery total now stands at 350, 697.



The East African nation is currently conducting a nationwide vaccination campaign. In the last 24-hours, it has offered a little over 32, 000 doses of vaccines to the public.

The figure pushes the total doses offered in the country so far to more than 10.54 million and the number of fully vaccinated people to 9, 089, 716.

The vaccine drive which started on March 13, 2021 involves a range of vaccines including J&J, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopharm, and targets to immunize over 20mln people by January.
