COVID-19: Ethiopia Confirms 1, 790 Cases over the weekend

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported a total of 1790 new Covid-19 infections over the weekend, data from Ministry of Health show.

Health officials tested nearly 14, 000 people for the coronavirus in the past forty-eight hours to identify the new positive cases.



According to the Ministry, additional 20 people have passed away due to covid-19, a respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.

The combined death tally for Saturday and Sunday pushed the total of people who lost their lives to the virus 2, 279. The country confirmed its first COVID-19 related death on April 15, 2020.

Hospitalization rate has continued to rise over the past two days.

At least 370 patients are in hospitals getting medical treatment after their conditions deteriorated, according to the Ministry of Health’s Covid report for Sunday.

The patients are among 19, 159 confirmed active cases in the country.

Health officials have also continued to register more positive cases than recovery figures on a daily basis.

Over the past forty-eight hours, about 800 patients have recuperated after contracting the virus, according to the Ministry.

To date, the East African nation – which confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13 last year, has tested nearly 2.1mln people and confirmed 152, 806 infections. At least 131, 366 of them have already recovered, according to the Ministry.
