Ethiopia Adds 622 New Corornavirus Cases, Total Exceeds 360, 000

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 622 additional novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Wednesday as the national confirmed case count surpasses 360, 000.

The East African nation identified the latest positive cases after conducting 8, 444 tests in the last twenty-four hours, says the ministry of health in its Covid-19 report.



A further 29 people have also passed away due to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period.

The national death toll currently stands at 6, 287, according to the report.

The country now has 23, 392 active cases. At least 542 of them are severely sick, the report claims.

It also says about 487 patients have recuperated from Covid-19 in the same period, taking the recovery tally to 330, 821.

The ministry of health confirmed country’s first coronavirus case in March 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 360, 503 cases after conducting more than 3.62 million tests.

Its officials blamed the recent increase in infection and death cases on the prevalence of a delta variant.

They are urging the public to observe the health protocols put in place while pushing ahead with its national immunization campaign.

As many as 54, 593 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been offered to the public on Wednesday, according to data from the Ministry

Ethiopia started the ongoing vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, it has fully 3, 077, 505 people against the coronavirus.
