Grand Mufti Shares al-Mawlid Greetings
ADDIS ABABA – President of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Grand Mufti Haji Omar Idris extended a congratulatory message to all Muslims over the 1496th birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, a day of spiritual significance in Islam.
In the message, the Grand Mufti urged all Muslums to recognize contributions and follow examples of the Prophet while marking the Mawlid an-Nabi, or milad.
Mufti further called on the Muslim community to visit the needy and the displaced sheltered in camps, expressing his best wishes for peaceful and prosperous Ethiopia.
On the same day, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed extended his goodwill wishes on the celebration of al-Mawlid and reiterated Grand Mufti’s message.
Noting that all deeds done by Prophet Mohammed will enable human beings become free and guide them to a better life, PM Abiy said “We remember the prophet on this day for his good deeds he rendered to humanity as a messenger of Allah.”
The current situation in Ethiopia desperately demands such good deeds enormously, he said adding that “the country needs a sacrifice to free its people, to support and rehabilitate those who have been displaced.”
