Ethiopia Records 394 More Covid-19 Cases, 28 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 394 new novel coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Saturday, taking the confirmed cases tally to 358, 739.

In its report, the ministry health confirms the country identified the latest positive infections after testing nearly 6, 600 people in the last twenty-four hours.

Decreasing trend

In the same period, It has recorded 28 more Covid-19 related fatalities and 400 new recoveries, pushing the natuonal death toll to 6, 197 and recovey count to 328, 521.

The number of both severe and active cases have dropped by 14 and 32, respectively, as compared to the previous day.

Ethiopia now has 613 severely ill patients, claims the report which puts the confirmed active case tally at 24, 019.

Health officials, however, are still urging the public to be vigilant and practicing the Covid-19 protocols put in place as well as taking the Covid-19 vaccine to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Vaccination Drive

Today’s report shows nearly 8, 900 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the last 24-hours, bringing the total doses provided to the public so far close to 3.99 million.

Ethiopia started a national vaccination drive on March 13, this year– a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

Since then, it has vaccinated a total of 3, 040, 483 people fully.

The ongoing vaccination campaign also involves a range vaccines including a one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine as well as Sinopharm.
