Coronavirus: 697 New Infections Push Confirmed Case Tally to 348, 669

ADDIS ABABA – At least 679 new Coronavirus cases were recorded on Sunday, pushing the total number of confirmed infections in Ethiopia to 348, 669.

The country tested a total of 6, 025 people in the last twenty-four to confirm the positive cases, revealed today’s ministry Health Covid-19 report.

The national death toll also reached 5, 722 after 47 patients died due to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period.

Ethiopia now has 771 severely sick patients getting treatment in intensive care units. They are among the 27, 774 confirmed active cases, according to the report.

A total of 713 patients also recovered from the disease in the last 24-hours, bringing the recovery tally to 315, 171.

The country is currently carrying out a national vaccination campaign as part of its response to control the spread of the virus.

Nearly 16, 000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine were administered on Sunday, the Ministry reported.

The East African nation started inoculating its citizens on March 13, 2021.

To date, close to 2.87 million people have been vaccinated against the virus while the total doses administered in the nation reached 3.74 million.
