ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 1, 516 more coronavirus cases Sunday, taking the confirmed case tally to nearly 315, 000, says its ministry of health.
The country tested 7, 659 people to identify the new positive infections in the last twenty-four hours, the ministry reveals in its daily Covid-19 report.
The national death toll has reached 4,763 after 14 more patients succumbed to the disease in the reported period.
Currently, there are 727 severely sick patients, says the report, which puts the active case count at 26,228.
Ethiopia confirmed its first case on March 13, last year. Since then it has conducted close to 3.3 million tests to confirm 314,984 infections. About 283,991 of the infected people have already recovered.
In terms of the vaccination drive, the report shows 5, 271 people have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 on Sunday.
Health officials began inoculating its nationals on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
To date, 2,523,079 vaccine doses have been administered to people.
