ADDIS ABABA – Funeral service for Artist Alemayehu Eshete will take place at Holy Trinity Cathedral on Tuesday,the organizing committee said.
The public can also pay their last respects to the singer in a program arranged at Meskel Square from 11a.m. to 3p.m., according to state-run Ethiopian news agency.
The legendary singer, 80, died in hospital in Addis Ababa due to a sudden heart attack on Friday.
Many including president Sahlework Zewde and prime minister Abiy Ahmed paid tributes to the singer of ‘Addis Ababa Bete’ and ‘Temar Lije’.
Emerging in the 1960s, Alemayehu became an iconic figure on the Ethio-jazz scene and he performed right up until his last years.
Sending condolences to all Ethiopians, President Sahlework said his “melodious and didactic songs… will be remembered by generations”.
