Zambia Elections: AU Congratulates President-Elect Hakainde Hichilema

ADDIS ABABA – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has congratulated Hakainde Hichilema upon his election as President-Elect of Zambia.

The chairperson “warmly congratulates” the President-Elect on Tuesday a day after the opposition leader declared the winner of last week’s presidential election.

The Chairperson also commended the outgoing President Edgar Lungu for his tenure. The president has demonstrated “strong leadership and statesmanship through his gracious acceptance of the outcome of the elections,” Mahamat said.

The pan African bloc described the August 12 General Elections in Zambia as successful and the way the Electoral body  of the country conducted the voting process as  exemplary.
