ADDIS ABABA – U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman has begun his tour to the region in Djibouti where he held talks with the Executive Secretary of the regional bloc, Igad, on Monday.

After the meeting, Workneh Gebeyehu, head of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), said his discussion with Feltman was regarding “about concerns affecting the region”.

The discussion also “looked into ways and means for IGAD and the US to further strengthen partnership for peace, stability, and development”, Workneh added.

The US president Joe Biden’s special envoy is expected to visit Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates during his 10-day long visit.

During his visit, “Feltman will meet with senior officials in the three countries to discuss opportunities for the United States to promote peace and support the stability and prosperity of the Horn of Africa”, according to a statement issued by the State Department of the US government last week.
