AU Extends Condolences to Malawi over Deadly Plane Crash

African Union Commission Chairperson Mousse Mahamat extended condolences to Malawi after its Vice President Saulus Claus Chilima and nine others were killed in a plane crash.

The plane carrying the VP went missing after departing from the capital on Monday morning for the northern city Mzuzu.

No survivor was found after a search and rescue mission located the missing aircraft earlier today.

In a statement, AUC Chair Mahamat said he “was deeply saddened to learn” the mission found no survivors.

Mahamat said he “extends his most sincere condolences to the bereaved families, and the Government and the people of Malawi at this great national loss.”

He reiterated the AU’s solidarity with Malawi “during this difficult time.”
