Covid-19: Ethiopia Confirms 856 More Cases, Tally Exceeds 290, 000

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s confirmed  Covid-19 cases tally exceeded 290, 000 mark after recording 856 more infections on Tuesday.

The country identified the new positive cases after testing 7,238 people in the past twenty-four hours, the Ministry of health in its daily Covid-19 report.

A further six patients have also died due to the acute respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus in the same period, pushing the death toll to 4,495.



There are now 429 severely sick Covid-19 patients who are receiving medical treatment in hospitals.

The patients are among 20, 658 active cases in the country, according to the ministry of health’s report.

It also claims only 74 patients have recuperated from the disease on Tuesday, bringing the national recovery count to 265, 663.

To date, Ethiopia has conducted close to  3.13 million tests to confirm a total of 290, 818 cases.

As part of a response to control the pandemic, its health officials are currently carrying out a national immunization campaign.

As many as 12,137 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the past 24-hours, according to the ministry.

The latest figure has brought the number of vaccine doses offered nationally close to 2.33 million.

Ethiopia began its vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after its health officials obtained 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
