Ethiopia Reports 424 New Covid-19 Cases, 5 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA- Ethiopia has recorded 424 fresh cases and five more fatalities due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on Sunday, data from the ministry of health reveals.

The country identified the new positive cases after testing a total of 5,791 people in the past twenty-four hours, the ministry’s Covid-19 report indicates.

The new case and death figures reported today have pushed the national active case count and death toll to 15,046 and 4,426, respectively.

There are 291 severely ill patients currently receiving medical treatment in hospitals, claims the Ministry’s report.

It also says as many as 305 patients recovered from the viral disease in the reported period.

To date, Ethiopia has conducted more than 3.07 million tests to confirm a total of 284,091 infections. At least 264,617 of the infected people have already recovered, confirms health officials.

The ministry of health, which reported zero vaccination in the previous day, says at least 3, 136 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 on Sunday.

Over 2.27 million vaccine doses, mostly AstraZeneca, have been provided to the public so far, according to the ministry of Health.

The East African country began its vaccination push on March 13 – a week after its health officials received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
