Ethiopia reports 95 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 95 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the nationwide tally to 276,598, data from Ministry of Health revealed.

The country identified the positive cases after conducting over 4, 800 tests within a twenty-four hours.

The ministry also said three new death and 500 more recoveries were reported, bringing the national death toll to 4,335 and total recoveries to 261,656.



Ethiopia currently has 10,605 active COVID-19 cases, of whom 129 are under severe health conditions.

The East African nation is among the countries hardest hit by COVID-19 in Africa, following South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia.

Health officials are now providing Covid-19 vaccines people that are susceptible to the respiratory disease and essential workers.

On Tuesday, the country has inoculated a over 1, 800 with Covid-19 vaccine, pushing the total number of vaccinated people to 2, 049, 573.

The vaccination campaign in Ethiopia began on March 13 – a week after the country obtained 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility. The country also received 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine from China.
