Ethiopia Confirms 1,130 More COVID-19 cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 1,
130 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the national tally to more than 256, 000 , data from the Ministry of Health shows.

The ministry also reported 19 new deaths from Covid-19 in a day, taking the country’s death toll to 3,658, the ministry claims.



On the same day, 1, 492 patients have recovered from the disease, taking the national count of Covid-19 recoveries to 197, 916.

Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, has so far reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the East Africa region.

the country currently has some 54,842 Covid-19 patients, with 945 of them in severe condition.

The East African nation confirmed its first case on March 13, 2020. Since then, its health officials tested over 1.47mln people and confirmed a total of 226, 418 infections.

The number puts the country among top five countries, together with South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt, with the most confirmed cases in the continent.

Health officials are now providing Covid-19 vaccines to the public.

As of Thursday evening, the country has inoculated 1, 099, 614 people, according to the ministry of health.

Ethiopia received its first batch of Covid-19 vaccines from COVAX, a WHO-led initiative aimed at providing more equitable access to vaccines for low- and middle-income countries, in March, this year.
