Ethiopia Reports 1, 995 New Covid-19 Infections, 16 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded at least 1, 995 more Covid-19 infections and 16 related deaths on Friday.

In its daily report, Ministry of Health said it has conducted 8, 244 coronavirus tests in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new cases. The new infection figure is the second highest to be recorded in a day nationally since the start of 2021.



A further 16 people have also lost their lives due to COVID-related complications on the day, according to the report. It had pushed the national death toll to 2, 618.

The number of hospitalizations has continuef to increase after the condition of 24 more covid patients deteriorated as compared to the preceding day.

About 624 patients are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital beds after they become severely ill, health officials reported. They are among the 25, 556 confirmed active cases in the country.

The ministry also reported only 338 people have recovered from the respiratory illness in the past 24-hours, bringing the recovery tally to 145, 687.

Ethiopia identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 183, 863 infections after conducting over 2.26mln tests.
