Ethiopia Records 1, 543 New Covid-19 Infections

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered at least 1, 543 more Covid-19 infections and 15 related deaths on Wednesday, according to Ministry of Health.

In a daily Covid-19 report, the Ministry said nearly 8, 000 people have been tested for coronavirus over the past twenty-four hours to identify the new cases. Today’s reported case figure is the highest daily infection rate since the start of 2021.

Additional 15 people have passed away due to COVID-related complications on the day, shows the report that put the national death toll at 2, 446.

The number of hospitalizations has also increased by 10 in the day as compared to the preceding day.

About 438 patients are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital beds after they become severely ill, health officials reported. The patients are among the 27, 375 confirmed active cases in the country.

At least 503 people have recovered from the respiratory illness in the past 24-hours, bringing the recovery tally to more than 140, 000, according to the Ministry.

The East African Nation identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 169, 878 infections after conducting over 2.2mln tests.
