Ethiopia’s COVID-19 Count Surpasses 165, 000 Mark

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported at least 956 more Covid-19 infections on Saturday, pushing the national tally of confirmed cases to more than 165, 000.

Over 6, 400 tests have been conducted in the day to identify the new positive cases, according to the Ministry of Health daily covid-19 report.



Additional 16 people have passed away as result of covid-19 related health complications, the report shows. A total of 2, 420 people have lost their lives due to the virus since the first coronavirus-related death confirmed in the country on April 15, 2020.

Health officials also reported the number of hospitalizations in the country has remained more than 400 for two days in row.

There are 427 patients currently receiving treatment in health facilities after they become seriously ill, said the report which puts the tally of national confirmed active cases at 24, 822.

Health officials have also reported about 354 people have recuperated in the 24-hours period after contracting the virus that causes the deadly respiratory disease.

The figure has slightly improved the number of recoveries reported so far in the country to 137, 785.

Ethiopia confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13, last year. Since then, the country has registered more than 165, 029 infections after conducting over 2.17mln tests.
