ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 656 new Covid-19 infections on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to nearly 143, 000.
Health officials tested more than 5140 people over the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases.
The country also registered eight more covid-related deaths during the period, reported the Ministry of Health.
The latest figure on the day has pushed the total number of people who lost their lives due to the respiratory disease in Ethiopia to 2, 156, according to the Ministry. The country confirmed its first COVID-related death on April 15, 2020.
The East African nation currently has 15, 080 confirmed active cases. Health officials also said about 225 of them have been hospitalized after getting severely ill.
They also reported only 137 patients of Covid have recuperated from the disease on the day.
To date, the country has tested more than 2mln people since the first coronavirus case confirmed on March 13, and confirmed 142, 994 infections. At least 125, 756 people have recuperated after contracting the virus.
