Ethiopia Confirms 878 New Covid-19 Cases, 5 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded at least 878 new Covid-19 infections and 5 deaths on Thursday, according to its Ministry of Health.

The country tested 6, 212 people for the coronavirus in the day to identify the new positive cases, according to the Ministry’s daily covid-19 report.



The report also said additional 5 deaths were recorded in the day pushing the number of people who died due to convid-19 complications to 2, 321. The first COVID-19 related death registered in Ethiopia on April 15, 2020.

Data from the Ministry shows the number of hospitalization remains relatively similar with that of the preceding day.

About 387 patients are currently getting medical treatment in hospital beds after their deteriorated.
The patients are among 20, 182 confirmed active cases in the country.

Health officials also reported only 169 patients of the respiratory disease have recuperated during the 24-hours period, bringing the recovery tally to 133, 607.

To date, the East African nation – which confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13 last year, has tested more than 2.1mln people and confirmed 156, 112 infections.
