Ethiopia Records Nearly 1, 000 New Covid-19 Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded at least 977 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, pushing the tally of confirmed cases in the country to more than 155, 000.

Today’s number of positive cases is the highest reported in a single day since the start of 2021, according to data from the ministry, which has tested more than 6000 people for the virus over the past twenty-four hours.

The Ministry’s covid-19 report for the day also indicates the death of 12 people due to covid-19 related health complication.

A total of 2, 316 people has died since the first COVID-19 related death confirmed in the country on April 15, 2020.

The report also shows the increase in the number of hospitalization by 22 as compared to the preceding day.

About 386 patients are currently getting medical treatment in hospitals after they become severely ill, claims the report that puts the number of confirmed active cases in the country at 19, 478.

Over the past 24-hours, at least 387 patients of the respiratory disease have recuperated, taking the recovery tally in the country to 133, 438.

To date, the East African nation – which confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13 last year, has tested more than 2.1mln people and confirmed 155, 234 infections.
