Authority Delays Bid Deadline for Telecom licences

ADDIS ABEBA – A delay to the process of offering two new nationwide telecoms licences has been confirmed by the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) on Monday.

In a brief statement published to the regulator’s social media feed, it said that the postponement was being made following requests received from would-be bidders during the question and answer period of the request for proposals (RFP) process for the concessions.



To that end, the ECA has confirmed that a new deadline of 5 April 2021 has been set for bids, giving companies an additional month from the original 5 March 2021 deadline, according to the social media post.

The ECA’s RFP for the award of licences was launched by on November 28, 2020.

Under a framework for the liberalization and development of the Ethiopian telecoms sector, the ECA plans to award two nationwide full‐service concessions through a competitive bidding process.
