Tally of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases in Africa Exceeds 3mln Mark

ADDIS ABABA – The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent has surpassed the 3mln mark, the head of Africa’s disease control body said on Sunday.

The COVID-19 dashboard of Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or Africa CDC shows the confirmed cases tally is 3,021,769 as of Sunday morning. At least 2.4mln of these infected people have already recovered, it said

The most affected African countries in terms of the number of positive cases include South Africa (1,2mln), Morocco (451,637), Tunisia (157,514), Egypt (148,799), and Ethiopia(127,792).

The death toll related to the virus stands at 72,121, according to the Africa CDC. The continent’s highest COVID-19-related deaths is reported in South Africa, which, as of Sunday morning, stands at 32,824.
