Mobile Voice Service Restarts in Mekelle City
ADDIS ABEBA – Mobile voice services has been restored in Mekelle City of Tigray regional state, Ethio Telecom said.
“Following coordinated and concerted efforts, we have managed to provide mobile voice services in Mekelle city and Maychew,” said the company in a statement on Saturday.
Mobile voice service in Tigray has been cut since November 4 – hours before the law enforcement operation began in Tigray regional state.
Last week, CEO of Ethio Telecom, Frehiwot Tamiru said restoring telecom services in the region fully would take time. This is due to the gravity of the problems including fixing systems in its core office which has been disrupted by TPLF forces, according to the official.
Ethio Telecom’s ongoing operations to resume telecom services include rehabilitating damaged transmission lines and getting stable electric access.
The effort has so far helped to resume telecom services in Dansha, Humera, Maykadra, Turkan, Maytsebri and Korem areas partially while full-service began in Alamata.
