Electoral Board Gets New Member
ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopian lawmakers have endorsed the appointment of Fikre Gebrehiwot to fill in the vacant position at the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE).
Fikre replaces Getahun Kassa, who tendered his resignation to the parliament last September, and become one of the five Board members of Ethiopia’s voting agency.
His appointment took into consideration his work experiences and educational background, according to the government.
Like Getachun, Fikre is a scholar teaching at the Addis Abeba University (AAU).
He will help the NEBE prepare for the sixth general election which will be held this year after the Ministry of Health said that the voting could take place under a circumstance that takes coronavirus pandemic into account.
