Ethiopian Road Fund Garners 733mln Birr in Three Months

ADDIS ABEBA – The Ethiopian Road Fund said on Monday it has collected over 733 million Birr in revenue in the first quarter of the current 2020/21 fiscal year that started on July 8, 2020.

The amount is 2% less than its target for the period which was 747mln birr, according to a statement the Fund sent to The Monitor.

Spokesperson of the Fund Asrat Assale said the source of the revenue were road tariff from transboundary vehicles, tariffs on lubricants, oil and petroleum, vehicle license renewal fees and others.

During the period, the Fund has also made payment 104 million birr to regional states and the Ethiopian Roads Authority, to see to the maintenance of roads.

Established in 1997 via a private-public partnership, the Ethiopian Road Fund is tasked to serve as a financial platform for road maintenance and road safety measures in the country.
