Abiy Holds Talks with Regional, Security Officials over Conflict in Metekel

ADDIS ABEBA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has held discussions with regional administrations and security sectors of Amhara and Bunshangul-Gumuz regional states on recent conflict that occurred in Metekel.

“Our lengthy discussions examined challenges for which we have set directions to ensure sustainable peace in the area,” Abiy said after the meeting.

Friday’s meeting came after continues attack on ethnic minorities in Ethiopia’s western region of Benishangul-Gumuz since the beginning of September.

At least twelve people died in clashes in the region last Sunday alone, according to Ethiopian human rights commission.
