ADDIS ABABA – Foreign Minister Gedu Andargachew and his Italian counterpart, Luigi Di Maio, held a conversation today over the phone on various regional and bilateral issues, according to Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign affairs.
“The ministers thoroughly discussed the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the current status of GERD talks, and the proposal presented by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed to G-20 countries as well,” said the Ministry in a statement after the discussion.
It said the ministers underlined the need for exchange of timely information on the spread and experiences on the fight against COVID-19.
The pair also noted the importance of giving due-consideration to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s proposal to G-20 countries that called for a sizable amount of aid package and debt reduction plan to help Africa successfully combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Italian Foreign Minister also reiterated that his country would continue to support Ethiopia’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ministers also exchanged information on the current status of the tripartite talks and the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance dam.
Maio expressed his hope that the tripartite talks over the GERD would get a resolution through dialogue.
