ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 65 new cases of Coronavirus infections on Sunday, bringing the tally of confirmed cases in the country to 4, 532.
The Ministry of Health, after testing 4457 individuals over the past twenty-four hours, said it has identified 42 male and 21 female patients of COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.
All of the newly confirmed cases are Ethiopian nationals with their age ranging from 14 of 76 years, according to its report for Sunday.
With the exception of Benishangul-Gumuz, all regional states have reported at least one case on Sunday.
Addis Ababa, the epicenter of the virus in the nation, reported the majority of today’s cases with 31 patients infected with the virus. Somali and Oromia regions reported 9 and 5 cases, respectively.
Dire Dawa city administration and Afar reported 4 coronavirus infections each while Gambella (3) Amhara (3) and SNNP (2), Tigray (1) and Harari (1) regions.
– Two deaths Reported –
Over the past twenty-four hours, authorities conducted tests on the bodies of 18 people who died in various health facilities (5) as well as within the community (13).
A sample taken from a 75-year-old male who died within a community in Oromia region tested positive for the virus.
The report also says a 34-year-old female resident of Addis Ababa also passed away while receiving treatment, according to the Ministry of Health.
The two cases have taken the tally of coronavirus-related deaths in Ethiopia to 74. “We would like to pass our condolences to their families,” said the Ministry’s report.
– Recoveries remain high –
There are at least 3, 243 active cases in the country, indicates the report which also states that 32 patients who were in severe conditions yesterday are still in Intensive Care Units.
However, the rate of recovery continues to go at almost the same trend as it was over the past five days.
Ninety-one patients have beaten the virus, according to the Ministry’s report.
The majority of the patients that recovered from the deadly diseases are from Addis Ababa (67) and Somali region (16). Amhara (4), Benishangul-Gumuz (2) and Oromia (2) regional states reported the rest of the recoveries.
To date, 1, 213 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in Ethiopia, where more than 216, 000 people tested for the virus.
