Shipping Enterprise Garners Over $565.6mln in Nine-Month

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Shipping Lines and Logistics Enterprise (ESLSE) has collected 19.4bln birr or approximately 565.6mln US dollars in revenue in the first nine months of the current 2019/20 fiscal year, its CEO announced on Thursday.

ESLSE collected the amount despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic that affected the overall transport sector across the globe.

The enterprise has lost 75 percent of revenue since the pandemic started, ESLSE’s CEO Roba Megersa told ENA.

The consequences of the coronavirus pandemic have dealt a huge blow to the sector, Roba said, adding that the enterprise is currently in talks with the concerned officials to ease its impact on the sector.

Despite a decrease in revenue, the enterprise has carried out a lot of the Country’s import and export during the period.

The CEO said the enterprise transported some 12 million tons of goods during the fiscal year, which started on July 8.

The amount has shown a 37 percent increase when compared to the same period of the previous budget year, according to the CEO.

ESLSE transported only 9.7 tons of goods in the first three-quarters of the 2018/19 FY.
