ADDIS ABABA – President of Eritrea President Isaias Afewerki is in Addis Ababa a two-day official visit, officials said.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other senior government officials welcomed Afewerki upon arrival on Sunday.
“Good to welcome again President Isaias Afwerki to #Ethiopia for a two-day meeting,” said PM Abiy Ahmed in a twitter message earlier.
The message was accompanied by photos of the two leaders accompanied by Ethiopian president Sahlework Zewdie having an informal meeting.
Abiy said the discussions, scheduled to continue tomorrow, “will be exchanging on bilateral and regional issues as well as the challenges we are currently faced with as a global community”.
COVID-19 response, locust invasion as well as other regional issues are part of the discussions, according to Eritrean Information Minister.
After 20 years of hostility, Ethiopia and Eritrea resumed diplomatic relations in 2018.
