Ethiopia’s Harari Region Reports its First COVID-19 Case

ADDIS ABABA –Harari regional state has reported its first case of coronavirus late on Thursday, taking the total number of confirmed cases in Ethiopia 399.

The ministry of health described the patient as 37 years old Ethiopian national who resided in Harar City. The patient was among the eleven people tested for COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.



He has no contact with previously confirmed cases and no travel history, according to health officials.

With the latest infection case from Harari, Gambella remains the only region in Ethiopia without a reported case of COVID-19.

The East African nation reported its first case of coronavirus on 12 March. Since then it has tested over 69, 519 people and has so far confirmed 399 cases including five deaths.
